Sariel
Sariel is a non binary digital artist in love with the ethereal and the macabre whose personal artworks explore queer stories through the lens of fantasy, mythology and science-fiction. To appease the capitalistic beast, they typically resort to offering their services as a freelancer for video games, boardgames and other publications.
This self-portrait project, started in December of 2018 with the artist's realisation of their trans identity, is an introspection exercise where they evaluate their relationship with their own body and their experience within it through the years. This latest portrait encapsulates the artist's thoughts on 2023, a year marked by medical enquiries and health struggles, but also by the newfound comfort and freedom gender affirming medical care has granted them. The collage composition of this piece aims to represent that multifaceted aspect of their experience, both worries and victories alike, romanticising the struggles through anatomical illustrations and testing their recently discovered confidence through a very open and defiant pose.
