Kairo
Kairo Urovi (b.2000) is an Italo-Albanian artist based in London. His practice revolves around the complexities of being trans masculine and of Albanian descent whilst attempting to define a sense of belonging and home. His work has been previously exhibited at Autograph ABP, Paris Photo and RichMix.
Light Are The Wounds Heavy Is The Wind' is an ongoing project that finds artist Urovi journeying back to their home country Albania. 11 years after their last visit and 3 years after a gender transition, the work explores a now unfamiliar land where the complex emotions of displacement, loneliness and isolation are amplified due to still being recognised as a girl. No matter how big the grief, 'Light Are The Wounds, Heavy Is The Wind' is a love letter to Albania and a powerful expression of trans resilience and visibility.
